Def: first hand evidence, an out of court statement offered for a relevant purpose other than proving the truth of its contents, (eg to prove something was said at all)
Example: If in an action for slander a witness testifies that he heard the defendant defame the claimant, his testimony is original evidence and not hearsay evidence.
